Released on the 2nd of February, ‘Heart’ comes following the release of ‘Bubbles’ in November 2023. ‘Bubbles’ was a massively successful track, well-received by critics and fans alike; it will be interesting to see whether ‘Heart’ will receive the same praise.

‘Heart’ draws on a variety of influences transgressing a variety of genres. Undoubtedly slotting into the hardcore scene and extracting attributes of punk, but in this track, we also see Last Hounds dabbling in nu-metal. Rough and distorted punk riffs bounce off nu metal vocals, making for an exciting and refreshingly original track. In this single we see Last Hounds’ lead vocalist experimenting with fast-spoken word/rap adding to the bitingly sharp narrative of the song.
Although this track feels slightly more experimental in its nature compared to previous releases, I would argue that it is perhaps Last Hounds strongest release so far. Furthermore, the track sits excellently alongside Last Hounds’ previous single ‘Bubbles’- hopefully, soon to be in an EP or album? Not only breaking through with angsty and thought-provoking lyrics, but also coming across with established confidence, Last Hounds have immense potential. Establishing themselves as ‘one to watch’ nationally in the hardcore metal scene, it fills me with swelling pride to see a Birmingham band like Last Hounds pulling themselves out of city’s alternative scene and attracting more and more attention.
You can listen to ‘Heart’ now on all streaming platforms.
