Alice Lily Brings Indie Goodness with New Single ‘Caroline’- Single Review

Writer: Daisy TaylorDaisy Taylor

On the 2nd of February, Alice Lily released their latest single ‘Caroline’. Blaring through my half-broken headphones, ‘Caroline’ brings perky/ upbeat indie energy. This track effortlessly fits the slightly lighter night's drawing closer to spring, and beautifully soundtracks my race through town to catch my train.

Bouncy riffs and pop beats make for a chirpy track that seems to perfectly slot into your happy/good vibes playlist. Alongside wispy and airy lead guitar, the vocals on this track seem to dance from verse to verse- graceful and enthralling.

‘Caroline’ feels more like a story than a song. From the first line, you are sucked into the narrative of ‘Caroline’. Immersed entirely in this song’s character and impressed entirely by Alice Lily’s masterful songwriting. We hear about ‘Caroline’ the girl that ‘complains about the money she don’t have’ and the way ‘her parents left her poor’. We become immersed in the way ‘Caroline’ falls in love, how she can’t move on from the past, and how she’s ‘got a boyfriend at home with the cat’.

The way that this track draws intense attention to the narrative is refreshing and hugely cathartic. Desperate for escape and searching for a distraction from reality, ‘Caroline’ pulls you into another life and out of your own.

You can now listen to ‘Caroline’ on all major streaming platforms.
