System of a Down released two tracks, 3 days ago, as an attempt to raise awareness, and funds for the the current war polluting Artsakh, which is having a devastating affect on the Armenian community. The band have not released any new music for 15 years; their last album 'Hypnotise' was released in late 2005. The nu metal group haven't put out music in over a decade, due to the simple fact that the band haven't seen eye to eye, Serj Tankian revealed in a Facebook Livechat, with Tumo Center For Creative Technologies, that 'we can't do something unless we're all really, really into the same direction, into the same goal, into the same vision'.
It seems that Armenian-American group have finally seen eye to eye, with the release of two vitally significant songs illustrating the disgusting, genocidal acts occurring in Artsakh, at the hands of the corrupt authority of Aliyev in Azerbaijan and Erdogan in Turkey. The songs act as a form of awareness for the catastrophe in Armenia, and any purchases of the songs, on the band's official Bandcamp page, go directly to the Armenia Fund.
System of a Down released 'Genocidal Humanoidz', and 'Protect The Land' as an anger-fuelled response to the corruption, and instability of the home country of half of the band. 'Protect The Land' was paired with an intense music video, featuring an almost, dystopian environment contaminated with the effects of war. The band signalled a nod of gratitude to 'those who protect the land', presumably meaning the original Armenian community.
Initially, fans are excited by the glimpse of new music from the group, with a hope for a possible upcoming album. However, it is important to recognise that the latest tracks have been birthed out of a fury, and necessity to help Armenia. The band put aside their creative differences in order to aid such a vital cause, therefore a new album may not be on the cards at this time.
