After 3 years of waiting, the new era has finally arrived. Motionless In White have released their latest single ‘Cyberhex’ last week, alongside announcing their upcoming album.
Motionless In White’s 6th studio album, titled ‘Scoring The End Of The World’, is set to be released on the 10th of June. Having put out their last album, ‘Disguise’, in 2019, it seems only time to treat fans to a new era of emo, goth metalcore.
As the first single released in anticipation of the album, ‘Cyberhex’ keeps Motionless In White tied to their emo roots with heart wrenching lyrics such as: ‘I found asylum inside, Your Armageddon eyes’. But the new single also takes on a futuristic approach both lyrically and instrumentally. Packed with synths, and pessimism, ‘Cyberhex’ engages in the bleakness of the end of the world tied with the beauty of condemned love- ‘I wasn’t willing to die, Until I kissed your apocalypse’.
Looking at the title of the upcoming album, ‘Scoring The End Of The World’, we may be able to expect more of this futuristic, almost, technological approach. If the album is anything like ‘Cyberhex’, we are in store for a world of fury, desperate emotion, unforgiving breakdowns, and a digital attack.
Chris Motionless spoke on the latest single, referring to the track as a ‘love letter to you, our fans’. Chris speaks of ‘Cyberhex’ as a force of unity, using the track as a form of gratitude, honouring the band’s fans after ‘some of the most mentally taxing few years’. Finally, he said: ‘We ARE the resistance. We ARE Cyberhex’.
One can only appreciate the album artwork for ‘Scoring The End Of The World’. Motionless In White leaned on Ukranian artist and graphic designer, Katerina Belikova, branded as NinjaJo, for the creation of the album’s cover art. Looking at the artist’s online illustration portfolio, featuring robots and technology, NinjaJo could not have been more suited as the creator for this piece.
