Jazzcat are a Bimm Birmingham born indie outfit, the group blossomed out of Bimm Institute’s very own practice rooms. Upon announcing themselves on stage, lead vocalist, Jaimie, introduced the band as Jazzcat, but preceded to assure the crowd that the group’s genre was in fact, not jazz...
Friends and fans of Jazzcat swarmed to the O2 academy barricades as soon as the 4 made an appearance. An unmatchable buzz of energy as the boys prepped their instruments. Beanies and long hair galore, the ultimate indie aesthetic was definitely achieved.
Under the iridescent purple sheen of stage lights, the band kicked off with an array of impressive original songs mixed with several well-chosen covers for good measure, including the likes of: ‘Looking Out For You’ by Joy Again, ‘Model buses’ by Lovejoy, ‘What Once Was’ by Her’s, ‘kilby girl’ by The Backseat Lovers, and the most memorable of course being ‘My Kind of Woman’- a lovely Mac DeMarco special.

It seems unlikely that one could ever mosh to ‘My Kind of Woman’, and yet... Jazzcat made it happen. With such undeniable stage presence and influence over the crowd, the indie boys enabled a circle pit in honour of ‘My Kind of Woman’. That is unfathomably impressive.
Asking about the initial feels after the gig, the group were buzzed with adrenaline and exhilaration, ‘I think we were just excited to play in front of people for the first time as a band and just completely enjoyed performing’.
The giggles of excitement and nervous tittering of the bandmates added to the wholesome aura of the performance. Ultimately, Jazzcat provided a night full of indie sunshine, and their first gig has set the precedent for what will optimistically be a journey of exceptional success...
Jazzcat have their next performance on the 3rd of February at The Sunflower Lounge, grab tickets and witness some of Birmingham’s newest, most promising indie talent at the intimate, basement venue.
