On the 10th of October, down at our favourite little, local venue The Sunflower Lounge, Do Yourself A Favour Promotions put on another killer show with an eclectic mix of sounds and yet perfect compatibility. Starting with Pop-punk, transitioning into alternative indie, and finally catapulting us into chaotic hardcore punk, this gig was headlined by Veg. and supported by local favourites JINX and E-PO.
There was a hefty turn-out for this show, with a good mix of supporters for each band. The basement venue was packed out and pushed to its limits with this show, and for the audience you didn’t really have a choice of being in the mosh...
Kicking off the night was E-PO. Having recently signed to RiverSt Records the band

exploded on stage with huge energy and potential. Ultimate pop punk vibes combined with total confidence and ease painted E-PO to be the rising star of the local alternative scene. Blessing the audience with original tracks, E-PO showcased their master song writing whilst assertively illuminating their unique sound. A favourite track from their set had to be ‘Mother’. ‘Mother’ is E-PO's debut single now available on all major streaming platforms, released on the 20th of May 2022. The track perfectly captures the outfit’s distinct, original sound, exploiting E-PO's angsty, emotional side meanwhile capturing pop-punk bouncy drumbeats, alongside driving, headbang-worthy riffs. Having now signed to their new record label, exciting things are coming for the band, and according to their recent Instagram post 2023 is going to be a ‘big year’ for them- hopefully fans will be treated to an EP at the start of the year?

Next up was JINX, having already seen JINX live at DYAF’s Pride show last month, the band promised a great show: and they didn’t disappoint. Fuelled with a quirky, alternative, indie sound, JINX treat their audience to a range of original tracks and covers. Frontwoman Mani soothes the crowd with her angelic and compassionate vocals combined with the band’s enchanting indie riffs. After seeing JINX live for the first time, I was excited for the band’s future and awaiting a debut single. However, in a recent Instagram post captioned ‘There’s no album. We’re breaking up’, JINX have announced that they are no longer continuing their journey as a band and on the 26th of October they will play their final show at The Sunflower Lounge. Being one of their last shows, JINX stormed the stage with unrestricted energy and only made us question further why this brilliant band is breaking up? On the 26th of October you can also expect all of JINX’ recorded songs to be released, including ‘Die to Get To Heaven, Pretend It Was Never Me, and Lavender’. Although JINX is calling it quits, each band member is continuing their musical journey individually and you will likely catch them around the Birmingham scene.
And finally, Veg. Bundled with angst, and fire Veg. corrupt the stage with their unforgiving

hardcore sound. Punching straight into their set Veg. played non-stop erupting with pounding punk drums, driving guitar riffs and vicious headbanging. Treating the audience to a selection of originals and covers, a favourite of their set had to be their cover of ‘Mother’ by Idles. An iconic punk track of our time, and Veg. portrayed it perfectly. Veg. approach each performance with an unbothered, fierce attitude. Their punk to the core personality is what makes them endearing to local fans. Playing a selection of original tracks, it shouldn’t be long before Veg. have some released tracks for you to listen to...
