On the 8th of February, Me Rex hit the Birmingham leg of their tour, headlining The Victoria with support from Trust Club and Silver State. Put on by our favourites Do Yourself A Favour Promotions, this show worked to spotlight headliner Me Rex with complementary and impressive support acts.

It made a refreshing change to head down to The Victoria. We made our way into the pub with its lively, jovial atmosphere and stumbled upstairs to The Victoria’s hidden intimate venue. Kicking off the night was Silver State.

Silver State are an alternative indie 5-piece hailing from Stoke-On-Trent. The band’s set featured a mix of covers and original tracks, including their debut track ‘Clock Test’ and their latest release ‘My Mistake’. Silver State are led by the powerhouse and ray of sunshine that is their lead singer; her serenading vocals are complimented with intricate whistling guitar riffs. Virtuosic guitar work teamed with excellent song writing, gives Silver State huge potential. Silver State approached their set with bubbling nervous energy, with this outfit’s huge artistic talent, I would love to see them face the stage with more assertion and confidence. Silver State released their latest single ‘My Mistake’ on all major streaming platforms on the 10th of February, and their debut single ‘Clock Test’ in August 2022.

Next up was Trust Club. Having previously seen this band live, I had a good idea of what to expect from the band’s set. However, since seeing the band in September last year, Trust Club seemed to have grown in confidence, and hit The Victoria with bounding energy. Euphoric and nostalgic, Trust Club treat their audience to bouncy pop punk rhythms and vocal work. Lulling the audience into their set with giddy smiles and their unforgiving politeness, Trust Club can’t help but put a smile on your face. Favourite tracks include their cover of Weezer’s ‘Buddy Holly’ (an instant crowd pleaser), and their original track ‘All I Can Do’. At the end of their set Trust Club sucked us back in with an encore that ended in the band’s lead vocalist throwing his guitar down. Throughout their set and especially in their encore, Trust Club let loose, revealing their true potential and distinct sound. Trust Club currently have their debut single ‘Untelligent Behaviour’ released on all major streaming platforms, as well as live versions of their original tracks ‘Not Quite’ and ‘Friend’. We are hoping for more single releases from Trust Club very soon.

Finally, the stars of the show Me Rex. This band live are like nothing I have ever seen before. Juggling multiple instruments each, Me Rex exhibits immense musical talent and skill. Along with juggling the guitar, keys and vocals, the outfit’s lead singer can be seen bouncing around with no shoes on spotlighting his quirky dance moves. Me Rex’s performance is jam-packed with an eclectic mix of sounds, that somehow perfectly complement each other. From the hints of mid-west emo and uplifting pop-punk beats to mystical synth and enchanting dance moves, Me Rex cover all bases and yet seem to have developed a sound that is totally unique and enthralling. With a mix of 3 sets of vocals Me Rex harmonises beautifully, and their expert song writing is put on a pedestal. Me Rex’s performance featured all original tracks including Toilet of Venus, Jupiter Pluvius, Megabear, Never Graduate, Heart of Garbage, GGG, Stellar Abattoir, True North, Robotswalkonwater, Skin it Itches, Flood, and Sinkhole. Me Rex, are currently on tour in the UK for the release of their recent EPs ‘Plesiosaur’ and ‘Pterodactyl’. Me Rex has a plethora of music released, including last year's EPs and their debut album ‘Megabear’ released in 2021. Me Rex’s album ‘Megabear’ has an impressive 52 songs on it, and along with ‘Plesiosaur’ and ‘Pterodactyl’, you can find it on all major streaming platforms.
