Do Yourself A Favour promoters displayed the talent and energy that the Birmingham scene has to offer in their support of London based Swedish post punk band Junodef.

The night started off strong with post-hardcore band E-PO and their distinct brand of 90s punk, 2000s emo, and a sharp political edge. They display the frustration of modern youth with blazing riffs, quick wit, hard hitting breakdowns, and an energetic stage presence. They continue to display a progressive attitude to these aesthetics and an ever tightening performance, making them a must see act within the scene.

E-PO have also recently announced a new track, “GUIDELINES”, out on the 24th of March that is sure to catch the eyes of anyone interested in the modern hardcore movement. For fans of: Maggie Lindemann, Hot Milk, Paramore.

The second performance of the night was pip, one of the most forward thinking and witty bands within the scene today. Their unique blend of jazz, post-punk, indie singer-songwriter, and shoegaze (just to name a few) is on full display within their setlist, truly cementing them as genre-bending masters.

They have a charming stage presence which, paired with indisputable talent, creates a one of a kind experience through this rhythmically complex, constantly surprising, and mind blowing performance. Be sure to catch their upcoming gig on the 31st of March for the release of their debut EP “Are We There Yet?” on the same date. For fans of: Fievel Is Glaque, The Ladies, Women.

Headliners for the evening were London based, Swedish post punk band Junodef. Just off of a Swedish tour, this band burst on stage with heavy primal drums, lush ambient backing tracks, slinky basslines, and reflective lyricism. The gothic, danceable songs are well crafted and intriguingly dense due to an immense detail orientation, reminiscent of Björk.

Performance wise, the dual vocal stylings and energetic rhythm work to create a strong, groovy, and enchanting atmosphere which runs through the entire set, making them stand out as distinct voices in the post-punk renaissance. Although they are concluding their tour soon, you can still catch them live in Colchester on the 17th of March. For fans of: Perfume Genius, Xiu Xiu, Crack Cloud, Divorce.
