Sexual assault allegations against All Time Low’s Jack Barakat are ‘absolutely and unequivocally false’ according to the statement put out by the group on Monday.
The pop-punk group released a statement addressing a recent TikTok video alluding to a member’s misconduct. The video features a young woman expressing her personal experience with a member of All Time Low. As if the video wasn’t concerning enough, the comments are even more tormenting. Being 13 years old at the time, the girl claims to have been invited onto the band’s tour bus, and then in the post’s comments outlines that the band in fact offered her beers and attempted to take her bra to add to what she calls their ‘nasty collection’.
The TikTok video has spurred more women to speak out against All Time Low, and Jack Barakat in particular. All women possess equally distressing encounters with the band, and most reports detail these victims being underage.
Prior to the statement release, another woman came forward expressing that she had been victim to sexual assault over a 6-year span, starting when she was 15 years old. She had tried to outline her story on multiple occasions and had been met with hate, and in the latest occasion has had her twitter account suspended.
In response to the outbreak of accusations, the band rightfully put out a statement. Unfortunately, this statement possessed downright refusal to admit to any accusations, and instead demanded that all allegations are ‘completely and utterly false’. Whilst claiming to stand with victims, the band refer to the accusations as ‘lies’ and say that they will not ‘fuel or amplify’ them.
When All Time Low’s statement appeared on their Instagram on Monday, there was very little knowledge as to the accusations that had been made, and what exactly was going on. Reading comments on the band’s Instagram post to gain some context, there seemed to be a complete disparity in fans reactions. Die-hard fans unsurprisingly sided wholly with the band expressing that All Time Low are one of the only un-problematic bands around. Contrastingly, many fans are deeply pained by the accusations and are choosing to side with the victims until the band is proven innocent.
According to tweets and comments on social media, there has seemingly been 97 allegations. Patently, we cannot know for sure that all these accusations are true, but the fact that there are so many stories speaks for itself.
